September has remained a busy month for our teams. We were out in force this weekend at events in the North West of England and the Scottish Highlands. Some 20 staff were involved with events this weekend.
Charity Cycle Event – one of our paramedics provided medical cover to this two day event, which took on the hills and open roads of Harrogate and Ripon in Yorkshire. All riders completed the demanding route without incident.
Adventure Race – another two day event, which saw around 1500 competitors completing a gruelling coast to coast route from Nairn to Glencoe. The challenge involved kayaking, trail running and road and off-road biking. Due to the geographical spread of competitors we supplied four double crewed vehicles (paramedic and rescue techs) that provided a mobile and static presence on the course. We dealt with several competitors but luckily they presented with no more than soft tissue injuries, abdominal pain and wasp stings. We also provided wireless timing solutions to the event.
Obstacle Course Race – our safety team and communication team provided overall event safety, incident management and VHF communication solutions to this event, which was held in Penrith. All went well, although our Defender 90 got rather muddy.
Sportive Cycle – Finally three paramedics based in vehicles provided advanced clinical support to a sportive ride in the North West. A couple of riders received treatment, but again this was for minor presenting complaints.
